Kitty.

What an adventure I found this week!

At 5:30 Wednesday morning, Abby and I were driving to work.  I was groggy and tired and trying really, really hard not to whine and complain.  However, my mood instantly improved as I came out from under the new King's Road Overpass and I spotted an adventure!  It was huddled there, right on the fog line of road.  I slammed on the brakes and quickly reversed all the while screeching to Abby,

"THAT WAS A KITTY!  GET OUT AND GET IT!  I CAN'T LEAVE IT THERE!"

Abby jumped out and scooped up the tiniest little critter I've seen in ages!  There were no houses nearby, no mama kitty, just poor little Kitty who's eyes were stuck closed!  I have no idea how Kitty made it into the road or how someone else hadn't already made roadkill out of him!  We snatched him up though (even though I later found out Abby was totally grossed out I made her get out and grab "the mangiest looking kitten ever").  Kitty wasn't actually mangy but he was very SKINNY and his eyes were pretty goopy but I wasn't about to let a bit of UGLY stop us from rescuing Kitty!  So Kitty came to work with us!

About two seconds after rescuing Kitty I went, "Oh crap!  What am I going to do with a CAT?"  I am disgustingly allergic to cats and, even though I did have an outside cat at one point (he died of  that rotten bout of Chinese Food Poisoning), I certainly wasn't looking for a replacement!  Abby and I spent the remainder of our commute trying to figure out who would want to actually raise Kitty.  A rescuer I am; an adopter I am not!  We stopped at a gas station (the ONLY thing open at 6 am) and bought a bottle of milk and picked up a coffee stirrer.  Kitty was MORE than willing to have breakfast with us!  He had a ferocious appetite and, as soon as Danielle arrived at work, a new home too!  She adopted him immediately (thank goodness)!  Kitty was quite the distraction at work as we all had to walk by and love on him.  He rattled out the sweetest, tiniest purr and made himself right at home!

Although Danielle had officially adopted Kitty, she had to go to her second job that afternoon so Abby and I looked after Kitty for a few more hours.  We stopped at the pet store where the vets there told us he was about 4 weeks old (still too young to know if he was actually a he or a she), would need to be fed every three hours and probably needed to be seen for his goopy eyes.  Thank goodness Kitty was going to have a mommy who's name was NOT Tess!  Danielle will make a fantastic mommy though and Daimon was already in love with our little roadside orphan.  They are waiting for an official name until they know HE or SHE but I'll be sure to post an update when they do!
