LESLIE GULCH.

Last week, with gorgeous blue skies overhead, I headed out toward one of my absolute favorite fall destinations, Leslie Gulch.  I came home so inspired from this particular adventure, I vowed I would tell EVERYONE that they simply HAD to go to Leslie Gulch.  The beauty there is never justly portrayed by photographs.  You simply have to see it for yourself!  You have to stand in the bottom of that long ago volcano and marvel at the magnificent rock formations towering above you.  If you cannot find the time or energy to go on any other adventures, find the time and energy to visit my beloved Leslie!  I first visited this canyon in the fall and continue to do so because I love how the spectacular clear blue skies compliment the intensely rocky landscape!  Although there are numerous recreational opportunities in the area, a slow, meandering drive through the canyon is one of my favorite ways to enjoy Leslie Gulch--especially on a solo adventure.  However, I have decided I need to spend more time in the canyon than just a day trip will allow.  I smell a camping trip!

The desert never ceases to amaze me.  I just love how there are miles and miles of monotonous nothingness and then SUDDENLY . . .

SOMETHING REALLY SPECTACULAR!

I THINK SOME OF THE FORMATIONS LOOK LIKE CASTLES PERCHED UP ON THE HILL!
ESPECIALLY THIS ONE--IT'S MY FAVORITE BY FAR!

HAVE I BEEN LIVING NEXT DOOR TO THE "CHICKEN HOUSE" TOO LONG
OR DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A CHICKEN HEAD TO YOU?

SUCCOR CREEK

THERE IS A SPOT WHERE YOU CAN WALK TO THE VERY EDGE OF THIS PARTICULAR CANYON.  IT IS A COMPLETE STRAIGHT DROP OFF TO THE BOTTOM AND VERY SCARY!
I TRIED TO BE BRAVE AND WALK OUT TO THE EDGE!  WHAT A HORRIBLE IDEA THAT WAS!  MY WHOLE BODY REVOLTED AT THE IDEA OF BEING IN SUCH A PRECARIOUS POSITION.  I TRIED THOUGH!
I REALLY TRIED!

ON TO SAFER GROUND . . .

SUCCOR CREEK

I WAS TAKING THE PICTURES POSTED ABOVE WHEN THIS CRAZY BRANCH BROKE OFF THE TREE BESIDE ME AND HIT ME RIGHT ON TOP OF THE HEAD!  AND I'M NOT TALKING A TWIG HERE--IT WAS LIKE 8 FEET LONG AND TWO INCHES IN DIAMETER!  I HAD A FUNKY GOOSE EGG FOR DAYS AFTERWARD!

FALL PRETTIES

ISN'T POISON OAK PRETTY IN THE FALL???
